Tensions between India and Pakistan have hit a dangerous new high. On May 10, 2025, Pakistan’s military launched a wave of retaliatory strikes against India after Indian forces reportedly attacked three Pakistani air bases — Nur Khan (near Islamabad), Mureed, and Shorkot in Punjab province.
Operation Bunyanun Marsoos
According to Pakistani officials ,Aljazeera and international media, the Indian airstrikes were mostly intercepted with only minor damage. In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyanun Marsoos“, calling it a “tit-for-tat” action. The aim was to target the same Indian military bases believed to be involved in launching the attacks on Pakistan.
Key Targets Hit by Pakistan
Pakistan claims its forces hit several key Indian military sites, including:
- Pathankot Air Force Base
- Udhampur Air Force Station
- A BrahMos missile storage site near Bias
This was followed by a larger campaign of drone and missile attacks.
Scope of the Strikes
Pakistan’s retaliation wasn’t limited to a few bases. Reports suggest at least 26 sites across India were targeted in coordinated strikes. These included locations in:
- Jammu & Kashmir: Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Udhampur, Awantipora, Nagrota, Akhnoor, Reasi
- Punjab: Pathankot, Amritsar, Ferozepur
- Other States: Regions extending as far as Gujarat
In Ferozepur, a Pakistani drone was shot down and its debris injured three civilians.
Both sides used air defense systems to shoot down drones and missiles, with several interceptions reported. Skirmishes and cross-border shelling have also intensified.
Casualties So Far
Preliminary figures indicate at least 48 people have been killed since the conflict escalated. Pakistan claims over 26 civilian deaths on its side, while India has confirmed injuries but fewer fatalities. Independent verification of the death toll is still pending.
Statements from Both Sides
Pakistan’s military has stated it will not hesitate to defend itself and warned of further retaliation if provoked. They’ve said their response will be “felt globally.” On the other side, India maintains its strikes were aimed at terrorist bases and has reaffirmed its military readiness.
